Liverpool’s George Garrett Archive Project gets lottery backing

THE legacy of Liverpool seaman, writer, activist and adventurer George Garrett is to be preserved after a £58,700 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Liverpool’s Writing on the Wall organisation is carrying out an archive project over the next 18 months thanks to the Lottery funding.

Organisers hope it will highlight Garrett’s work as a political organiser and activist and to bring his literary work to a wider audience and inspire the next generation of writers.

Plans include staging one of Garrett’s plays at the Unity theatre during the 2014 Writing on the Wall festival, a film project, education pack and creating a physical display in collaboration with students from Liverpool John Moores University’s arts and design centre.
